Baldur's Gate 3's Publisher Calls Out Scalpers; „If You're Buying It to Trade, All You're Doing Is Making Someone Sad”

Scalpers are an extremely annoying group that has caused many people a lot of trouble, especially around the launch of the PlayStation 5 console. However, it turns out that they annoy not only the players, but also some developers. Michael Douse, one of the creators of Baldur's Gate 3 and publishing director of Larian, recently spoke critically about scalpers.

You cause sadness to others.

The latest game from Larian Studios was available for purchase in a limited collector's edition before its premiere last year. The real craze for this great RPG, however, only started after the release of version 1.0, which meant that many people who then immersed themselves in the world of Forgotten Realms, no longer had the opportunity to get the richest version. For this reason, the prices of collector's items have started to increase drastically.

However, they have now reached such levels that it caught the attention of Douse, who came across one offer for L2,900. Let's remind that originally the collector's edition was priced at 259.99 euros. The creator expressed his not-so-flattering opinion on X.

I hate scalpers. I understand how the commodity market works, but a collector's edition is not a commodity and it was designed to make someone happy, not to enrich them. If you're buying this collector's item for trade, all you're doing is causing someone to be overcome with sadness.

If we browse the American version of eBay, we can easily find offers worth thousands of dollars. Moreover, some of them do not even include a copy of the game, which was a part of the discussed edition.

It's worth mentioning here that if you'd like to own a physical edition of Baldur's Gate 3, Larian still sells the Deluxe Edition on their website. It may not be as rich as the collector, but it will certainly look nice among your collection of games on the shelf.
