Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 9 Goes Live; Many New Features, Including Class
Baldur's Gate III has received its last major update before leaving early access. Patch 9 introduces quite a few fixes and a new character class.
Larian has kept its word and shared a lot of information about the future of Baldur's Gate III in a Christmas episode of the Panel from Hell stream. On the occasion, there were some unfortunate incidents that had Geoff Keighley end up as a skeleton, and players learned about the Santa Claus class, among other things, and saw a new gameplay demonstration.
Humorous aspects aside, the developers discussed Patch 9, which is now available in Baldur's Gate 3 and will be the last major update before the game's release - that is, until August. Along with it came level 3 spells (including flying, resurrecting corpses and transforming into gas form), as well as revamped reaction mechanics (which will give players more freedom) and improvements to clues, first act clashes, etc.
Players also received another class: the paladin. This holy warrior must keep one of two oaths if he wants to keep his powers. Unless he decides to follow a different path to unlock a secret third subclass.
The gameplay balance (which was all the more necessary since the maximum character level was increased to 5th) and various bugs were also addressed. The full list of changes can be found in the entry on Baldur's Gate III's card on Steam.
As for the full version, the Larian Studios team once again mentioned the two returning characters Minsc and Jaheira (actually three, let's not forget Boo). It has been confirmed that both will be able to become the player's companions - or enemies, as the choices made by the hero will determine whether they join the party.
In addition, it was revealed, that Minsc will be voiced by Matt Mercer (to the delight of many fans and apparently the actor himself), known as, among others, Gangplank (LoL) and McCree/Cole Cassidy (Overwatch), as well as from numerous other roles (not just in video games). Mercer is also a a fan favorite of the Dungeons & Dragons community.
Baldur's Gate 3 will leave Steam's Early Access in August 2023.
