Brazen Baldur's Gate 3 Copycat Rebuked by Larian Studios
The great success of Baldur's Gate 3 attracted scammers who wanted to shamelessly ride on the brand's coattail. A mobile copycat of the game even found its way into official distribution.
Baldur's Gate 3 was a huge success and attracted a great many gamers. So it is not surprising that there are first scammers who brazenly copied Larian Studios' ideas in their games. What's more, this mobile fake has even made its way to official distribution in App Store.
Developers of Balder War - as the mobile game clumsily imitating Baldur's Gate 3 is called - even reproduced the game's main promotional art, only rejuvenating Astarion and slightly changing his hairstyle. More strongly "processed" Lae'zel - in the fake she looks much more like a human.
Balder War was available on the App Store for a while, but (probably) after the intervention of Larian Studios, the game was removed from the store's offer (per GamesRadar).
This is suggested by a tweet from Michael Douse, publishing director at Larian Studios. He posted the fake promotional art described earlier and a gif with Judge Judy shaking her finger. This can certainly be seen as a warning from the studio to other scammers who plan to ride on the brand's success.
On Steam, the latest games from Larian Studios was played by up to 875,343 people simultaneously. The title also received excellent reviews - on Metacritic the PC version has an average rating of 96/100 (from critics) and 8.9/10 (from users). On Valve's platform, in turn, as many as 95% of the reviews of the game are positive (out of 310,252 issued).
Baldur's Gate 3 recently received third patch with changes. The game can be played on PC from August 3 and on PlayStation 5 from September 6. Before the end of the year the game is expected to also come to Xbox Series X/S, but for now we do not know the exact release date.
