Another Coronavirus Victim - MWC 2020 Cancelled
The GSMA decided to cancel the Mobile World 2020 Barcelona event. The reason for this is the threat of coronavirus, which has caused many of the biggest exhibitors to give up their participation in the Spanish fair.
Just a few days ago, the GSMA promised that Mobile World Congress 2020 Barcelona will take place as planned, despite the absence of many of the most important exhibitors. Unfortunately, this year's edition of the event was eventually cancelled as well. A note on the official website of the MWC confirms that this is due to concerns about the new coronavirus epidemic and the "travel and other factors" that made the event "impossible". At the same time it was assured that the GSMA is already working on next year's edition of the fair in Barcelona.
Cancellation of the largest mobile technology fair is not a surprise. After the World Health Organisation declared a global emergency for the coronavirus threat, subsequent companies started to withdraw from MWC 2020. As of January 31, companies such as LG, Amazon, Ericsson, Intel, Vivio and Nokia, and more recently Sony and Nvidia have resigned. Admittedly, the GSMA took precautions to ensure the safety of the participants and the desire to come to Barcelona was still expressed by more than 2.8 thousand exhibitors. As you can see, it didn't work, and this year's Mobile World Congress joins Taipei Game Show 2020 and many other events canceled due to the virus, known since Tuesday as COVID-19.
