Brighter Shores is a brand new free-to play MMORPG set in the fantasy world. However, the game was not received very warmly and, surprisingly in our times, it's not just about technical issues. Players complain about oddly specific mechanic that appears in the game – when you change the region, it seems that you lose your progress in skills, even your equipment becomes useless. The developer of the game, Andrew Gower, on the other hand, claims that it’s not a complete wipe. So, what exactly is it about?

Stat Wipe in Brighter Shores Explained

Like I said earlier, Brighter Shores has unique mechanics that causes progression “reset” when you change zones, and you have to start almost from scratch in the new region. This triggered heated discussion among the community. Even developer, Andrew Gower, has spoken out about this element of the game. In a post on X, he defended his decision by saying that by entering next episode, you need to learn new Professions. He also explained that this is not a complete wipe. Why? If you go back to Hopeport, you will have the same skill progress level on which you were, when you left the region.

Developers’ statement didn't change much. Many players still feel that this is a very bad design that only ruins the gameplay. They claim that Professions in each zone are quite similar. In addition, this solution makes character development unclear and misleading.

However, some players also think that it’s a very well thought out mechanic. Why? It allows you to go to the previous zones without stronger skills. So, you won't be too powerful, and this region will still be interesting.
