Anyone who has had a chance to try out Star Citizen, knows that the game very effectively encourages you to spend your hard-earned money (according to calculations from 2022, a statistical player spends about $300 in the space simulator). They do this mainly through packs, which contain, among other things, rare ships or cosmetic items.

Their price varies, but they are often dizzying amounts. A perfect example of this is the Legatus 2953 package, currently priced at (beware!) whopping $59,040.

Having spent such an amount, we will come into possession of "175 machines from all known manufacturers" and a lot of cosmetic items.

And while the content list of the package is impressive, due to the amount Cloud Imperium Games is asking for this pleasure, gamers are unlikely to flock to buy Legatus. Instead they comment on this move by the developers in an amusing, often ironic way.

The Legatus pack goes on sale periodically, each time offering all released ships, vehicles and skins. So it's not hard to guess that with the development of game, the cost of purchasing successive versions of the Legatus Pack steadily increased - in 2021 it was 40 thousand dollars, and in 2018 27 thousand dollars.

It should also be noted that in order to have the opportunity to purchase a Legatus pack, you need to meet one tiny condition - spending at least $1,000 in the game.

Here are some examples of Reddit user reactions and from the official forum of the game:

"I'll take three," wrote SylverV.

"I get the impression that Star Citizen can be a safe haven for assets in case of bankruptcy or divorce," RegulusRemains was tempted to make an interesting observation.

"You can buy stocks and bonds on Wall Street for that amount. At least there will be some profit if you can play the stock market. Or just have a profit by keeping them. And here you have nothing back, because there are no shares in the package," Pendragon noted.

"My car costs less," HiCracked wrote.

"No, I have no intention of paying twice the down payment for a house for any video game, no matter how much I love it," concludes Evenlease44.

Finally, it is worth mentioning that at the time of writing this message Cloud Imperium Games has already collected from players more than $654 million for the development of Star Citizen. The sum continues to grow, as the finalization of work on the space simulator is still not in sight.
