Black List #10 - Baron | Career NFS Most Wanted Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
I don't have to tell you that you should pay a visit to one of the local car saloons. It's very important at this point of the career, because you should buy a new car. Thanks to that, the upcoming races will be a lot easier than suspected. I'm mostly talking about tracks with a lot of sharp turns.
Mercedes SL 500 (#1) is one of the few cars you shouldn't be interested in. The main thing that disqualifies this car completely is its price. Mercedes SL 500 costs 75000 dollars and that's a HUGE amount of money. You'd expect a lot more from such an expensive car. The SL 500 seems like a fast vehicle. Sadly, it turns out that it doesn't handle very well and its being easily outrunned by the other cars. SL 500 is a little bit more useful on the tracks located by the freeways. Nevertheless, you may ignore this vehicle without any regrets.
Mitsubishi Lancer EVO VIII (#2) is the car I was talking about. It's one of the best vehicles, at least in my personal opinion. Lancer has a 4WD drive, so it handles very well, especially on those tracks that have a lot of tight corners. The car is also very fast, however you must bear in mind that currently you won't have an opportunity to buy too many parts for the Mitsubishi. Don't worry, you will acquire them in the future. I'd strongly recommend purchasing this vehicle and using it in the following races.
You should spend ALL of your current funds on the performance upgrades for the newly acquired Mitsubishi Lancer. The car handles very well without them, but it won't hurt improving standard values. If you'll run out of cash, I'd suggest selling one of the older cars. Mazda RX-8 seems like a good idea, because you'd probably want to stick with the Supra a little while longer.
Just as before, Baron will require you to complete a list of several challenges. Here they are:
1) Races won: 5
2) Milestones completed: 4
3) Total number of points: 500000+.
Races:
1. Tollbooth - Hwy 99 & Union
It's a very simple challenge, really. Having a fast and agile car will only make it easier. Use the small passage in order to leave the freeway. Now you will have to go through some tight corners. Thankfully, you'll be able to cut through most of them (#2). Use a known shortcut that's located near the end of the track (#2). That's it!
2. Tollbooth - Waterfront & Bristol
This time you will have to watch out for the additional police forces, although you might use their presence in order to complete some of the milestones. Remember that the cops won't do you any harm while you are in the middle of the race. The track itself is also not that challenging. You will have to use your brakes in several spots (#1), however you've got nothing to worry about. Furthermore, you will be encountering many shortcuts along the way (#2).
3. Sprint - Boundary & Marina
This is a rather challenging race, although if you already know this track you shouldn't have any major problems with it. Be sure to cut through most of the tight corners (#1). You will be forced to use gravel or grass in order to do that. You should also try maintaining a high speed at all times. There's a left turn near the end of this race. DON'T try cutting it, because you'd hit the nearby rocks.
4. Sprint - Stadium & Hwy 1
This challenge, on the other hand, is a simple one. You will have to be more careful in several spots, although you shouldn't worry too much about completing this race. Watch out for the bigger left turn (#1). If you decide to cut through it, be sure to avoid the huge water tower. Hitting that object would probably slow you down a lot. After you reach the refinery use the left shortcut (#2) in order to gain a few extra seconds.
You should reach a tough spot in a couple of seconds where you will have an opportunity to make a huge jump (#1). Concentrate your efforts on maintaining a straight line, so you won't hit any of the surrounding barriers. Remember to use the shortcuts along the way (#2). Bear in mind that the police forces will join the chase. It's a good opportunity to score some extra points, needed to complete current milestones.
5. Speedtrap - North Bay & Seaside
A very short race, although you shouldn't be feeling too comfortable, because it is rather challenging. Thankfully, most of the speed cameras have been located near mild corners or even straight lines, so you shouldn't have any problems with them. Remember to use your nitro frequently. One of the toughest cameras has been located near a series of corners (#1). Stay on the grass and use the nitro, so you will be able to maintain a decent speed.
Milestones:
1. Bounty (35000 points)
You will have to earn at least 10000 points during a single pursuit. This may seem a lot. Thankfully, it isn't. The most important thing is to take part in a lot of crashes involving the police forces. Remember that you will receive extra rewards if you manage to destroy a few vehicles in a short period of time.
2. Cost to State Challenge (35000 points)
You shouldn't have any problems completing this challenge. Remember to destroy lamps, signs, bus stops and other objects of this type. You also might want to crash into other vehicles or even police cars.
3. Pursuit Time Challenge (35000 points)
This time you will have to maintain a pursuit for at least five minutes. It shouldn't be much of a problem. Don't forget to stay close to the police vehicles, so you won't lose them and end the pursuit too soon.
4. Roadblock Challenge (35000 points)
Like I've said earlier, you will have more problems with locating roadblocks, than with a successful evasion. I'd recommend staying on the freeway at all times. You will have a lot of space at your disposal and the roadblocks will appear more often. Remember to aim at the back of a squad car (#1). The point is to send it back flying, so you will be able to pass through safely.
MAIN EVENT:
You'll be glad to hear that both races are VERY EASY. You probably won't have to repeat them too many times. You also might want to skip some new performance upgrades. If we take a look at the Sprint race, it's all about knowing the track, especially the most precious shortcuts. The drag, on the other hand, will require you to memorize the correct "combination".
1. Sprint - North Bay & Harbour
This challenge is a very easy one. After the start you will have to deal with several mild corners. You shouldn't have any problems with them. Try cutting through most of the corners in order to gain extra lead. Use the shortcuts along the way (#1). You will probably remember most of them. Get ready, because there are more corners nearby. If you're lucky, Baron won't even get close to your car. I'd recommend using the right shortcut near the end (#2). The last few corners are very easy. You don't have to worry about them.
2. Drag - Harbour & Ocean
Another simple race. Be sure to avoid the truck that'll appear on your left (#1). You won't have much time to make a correct manoeuvre. Be sure to change lanes often. Thanks to that, you will be able to avoid most of the traffic. You don't have to use any nitro.
I'd STRONGLY recommend fighting for the Baron's car. He was driving a Porsche Cayman S. Why is this vehicle so important? First of all, it's one of the fastest and most useful cars of the game. Additionally, Baron's Porsche has some unique performance upgrades installed. You wouldn't be able to buy them at this time. If you would decide to buy and upgrade Cayman on your own you wouldn't be able to make such a car.
