Visual tuning | TUNING NFS Carbon Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
Since first Underground tuning is a very important part of every Need for Speed game. Basically we can tune our car in two ways: visually and mechanically. The way you tune your own cars is only a matter of your taste. But it's good to know what and how you can change. Luckily, in this part the situation looks better than in Most Wanted. We have more options and more parts to tweak, although it still lacks the level it has in Underground 2, where you were able to tune almost everything, including side mirrors and lights. For it we have the Autosculpt - a powerful tool, which is very helpful in personalizing our car. To use it, we must have the fabricators in our crew (look at the part "Crew"). The whole fun with Autosculpt is based on the parts. They have some number of points in which the part's shape can be modified. This number is based on type of the part and using Autosculpt we can create our unique "body kits" being sure that no one else will have the same looking car.
We can sculpt the rims, front and rear bumper, side skirts, front hood, roof scoops, spoilers and exhaust tips and also lower the roof in muscle cars. The modifications can be made ONLY with parts from the Autosculpt menu. As I said, the number of points, which we can modify is based on the type of the part. Most often we can tweak its height, width and the shape in different ranges. Most fun and possibilities comes, when we are tuning the rims, you can make fancy combinations with them. Some parts, like hoods or spoilers, have also their carbon versions. Also we can tweak tyres' width (!) and ride height.
Of course, you don't have to use Autosculpt. If you prefer to buy ready parts, you can always use the secondary market option to choose one you want from the catalogue. There are hoods, roof scoops, spoilers and wheels. We don't have the bumpers, side skirts or exhaust tips here, but the choice is greater than in the Autosculpt, also we have entire body kits for different cars.
WARNING! The whole tuning system from Carbon has one big weakness. You cannot mix the Autosculpted parts with the ones from secondary market. It maybe isn't very disturbing, but you still can't put your own exhaust tip to a car with a ready body kit. And mounting custom bumper will force you to abandon your body kit. For visual maniacs it will be irritating, but you can at least mount sculpted roof scoop or wheels to a body kitted car.
The whole painting module is a separate thing. Paintings, vinyls, decals, window tints or painting the rims - there are MANY things to customize. Everyone will find a combination for himself. As for the decals, the EA guys got back to the system known from the Undergrounds. We can now use the layers so it's possible to put as many decals as you want to, but that's not all! you can also scale, drag and spin your decals! And when I say that there are hundreds of painting options, logotypes, vinyls, decals and such then it will mean many hours spent on painting and customising your own ride.
