When starting the career mode in Need for Speed Unbound you can choose your first free car. This page contains information on which vehicle is the best to start with.

Prelude

The career mode is divided into two parts. The first one is the prelude, which shouldn't take you more than an hour to beat. You have three cars to choose from: Lamborghini Countach, Nissan Silvia and Dodge Charger. Lamborghini Countach is the best stat-wise, although each of these cars is able to handle the prelude easily.

First car from the shop

After finishing the prelude you'll start the career mode proper, from scratch, with a single car worth less than 30,000$ - NFS Unbound: Which car to choose first? - FAQ - Need for Speed Unbound Guide

After finishing the prelude you'll start the career mode proper, from scratch, with a single car worth less than 30,000$. There are many vehicles you can choose from, but the one we consider the most promising is the Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX (1999), equipped with a 4WD and the best acceleration / speed stats. It's great at starting up and pretty good at drifting.

What's next?

Later on in the game it may be tempting to buy a second car after advancing to Tier A and upgrading the first car. You can also leave the first vehicle in Tier B and purchase a better one. No matter your decision, having two cars of two different classes will let you participate both in Tier B and Tier A races. Max speed is more important than acceleration, as most tracks have plenty of space to reach the speed limit. Upgrading the car's acceleration, for example, buying a new clutch, is also easier than upgrading max speed.
