Last update: 22 May 2021

On this page of the guide you will find the Mass Effect system requirements. We have prepared the minimum and recommended system requirements for the original PC version of Mass Effect.

The following system requirements refer to the original 2008 release of Mass Effect. Remasters of the first three parts - Mass Effect Legendary Edition - have much higher system requirements. The newer versions have received lots of improvements and changes in terms of graphics quality, HDR support and other visual enhancements.

  4. DirectX: 9.0c

Mass Effect: Common issues with modern PC systems

Unfortunately, running Mass Effect may be troublesome on newer hardware configurations:

  1. If you try to play the game on one of the newer operating systems, you may need to run it as an Administrator. Otherwise, the game may not launch at all.
  2. The game may not work well with some AMD processors and this may end up with black rectangles instead of character models..

The universal solution to all technical problems is to play the Mass Effect 1 Remaster included in the 2021 Legendary Edition. It was prepared for modern operating systems, processors and graphics cards.
