Death Runs | Activities Mad Max Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
If you want to unlock new vehicles quickly and try your strength in races through the wastelands, Death runs are for you. Scattered through the whole map, they allow you to unlock new vehicles and obtain Griffa Tokens. To start a race, go to the starting point (in each location, it becomes marked on the map after driving near it or after finding it during the visit in the Vantage outpost).
The race rules are always similar. Most of all, in order to win you must reach the finish line as the first person. Secondly, you must do it before time limit runs out (it is shown in the center of the screen). It might happen that you finish the race before the time is out, but your opponent will be first - in that case you must repeat the race. Each Death run offers few vehicles to choose from (usually 3), in order to complete the race and unlock a quick travel point you must win once, with any vehicle. Some vehicles from your collection can be unlocked during Death runs, after a successful race the car you were using is added to your garage. Death runs can be repeated as many times as you want, sometimes they allow you to unlock more than one vehicle.
What's important, during the race it is possible to obtain Griffa Token. To get it, you must win the race with better time than the regular one needed for winning the race. A symbol showing the flow of time marks a line which you cannot cross in order to obtain the token (it's usually more than a dozen of seconds before the regular time limit). Getting the "legendary" time is needed only for obtaining the Griffa Token, winning with normal time is enough to complete the race.
Remember, that you can eliminate other drivers in order to make winning easier. If you want, you can destroy the vehicles of all opponents quickly after beginning the race and drive rest of the race while only worrying about the time limit. There are no penalties for eliminating opponents, sometimes it might be a good way to make your life easier - don't forget about taking shotgun ammunition to the race.
The races themselves are rather typical - you must drive from point A to point B. Only one race type requires you to stick to the track, in two other ones you have more freedom. Use it and don't stick to the path if by going through a shortcut you can reach the finish line faster. The game shows you a suggested route, marking it with a red color - if it's not enough, you can always do it yourself from the map menu. When you do it, the track will appear on the minimap.
Important: destroying or leaving the vehicle will automatically cancel the race.
Race types
Scatter Run - your only objective in this race is reaching the finish line as first. You can completely ignore the recommended route and instead create your own. Enemies will probably do the same, driving in different directions.
Time Bomb - in this race type you race only against time. Instead of trying to be faster than you, your enemies will be trying to destroy you. Try to avoid fighting them, only shoot the vehicles that are really getting in your way.
Barrel Bash - there are "checkpoints" located along the route and you cannot miss them. The checkpoints consist of few exploding barrels. You must hit at least one of them in each checkpoint. It means that you must, at least partially, stick to the track (except for the checkpoints, you can drive how you want). Missing or bypassing a barrel in any checkpoint will end in not completing the race, even if you do win it.
