Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic is an economic strategy game by 3Division Studios, tasking the player with managing a fictional nation subservient to the Soviet Union. The game features many different buildings and constructions to develop the country's industry and meet its people's needs.

Plot

Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic has us playing as a city administrator tasked with developing it. An important trait of the game is freedom. There are no specific goals: it's up to us how we'll lead the country.

Mechanics

The mechanics don't differ much from other games of the same genre. The player must develop their country, make use of its territory and make it self-sufficient. They must meet the people's needs while not running out of finances by constructing various buildings. Building, of course, requires resources,

while industry won't operate on its own. We need to assign properly educated workers to different facilities and factories. Education is important, as uneducated workers don't know how to do their job, so we must establish schools in residential areas. Workers also have needs, which increase over time. Initially, access to food is enough to keep people satisfied, but soon enough they'll start demanding access to alcohol or electronics. Fulfilling their needs affects their productivity at work. Children also affect the economy greatly. On one hand, they keep our number of citizens high - on the other hand, parents of young children won't work if there's no kindergarten nearby to drop their children off at.

Transportation is also crucial, as all goods must be transported between factories or warehouses. The same applies to employees. If they live too far away from their workplace, they'll need public communication, making it crucial to keep our city efficient.

Produced goods must then be monetized. Prices change dynamically, depending on such aspects as production costs. We can sell goods on the local Eastern market, or the foreign Western one. By selling our goods to the West, we're paid in dollars which must be converted into rubles. It's up to the exchange rate whether we'll make a profit.

Technical aspects

Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic heavily emphasizes realism. All buildings are inspired by actual Soviet infrastructure. The game makes use of a bleak color palette to sell the impression of life in a Soviet country.
