A collection of remastered versions of Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, Chronicles and Angel of Darkness, made by Aspyr Media. Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered set features an optional modern controls scheme, better character models & textures and high resolutions support.
Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered is a collection of remastered versions of the fourth, fifth and sixth main installments in the Tomb Raider action-adventure game series, originally released between 1999 and 2003:
This is the second such compilation released by Aspyr Media, after Tomb Raider I-III Remastered from 2024.
Plot
In all of the games from the Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered collection we play the role of a fearless archaeologist – Lara Croft. In Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, the protagonist finds herself in Egypt, where she accidentally awakens the ancient deity – Set. Given that the heroine brings about the vision of the end of the world, from now on her primary goal becomes finding the armor of Horus, an artifact capable of stopping the ancient god.
In Tomb Raider: Chronicles we take part in events from Lara Croft's past. Despite the fact that Lara did not return from Egypt and was declared dead, she still lives in the memory of her friends, who meet at her family residence to reminisce about her adventures related to the search for the Philosopher's Stone and the Spear of Destiny.
In Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness the main character returns, although not in glory. Accused of murdering her former mentor - Werner von Croy, she becomes a fugitive, and in an attempt to clear her name, she gets entangled in a plot involving alchemy and ancient artifacts.
Gameplay
The basics of the gameplay in Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered were developed for the needs of the earlier parts of the series. We watch the action from a third-person perspective (TPP) and play as Lara Croft, traveling through various locations - from Egypt, through Rome, to Paris.
Exploring them, we face platform challenges, solve various logical and environmental puzzles, and also eliminate enemies using an extensive arsenal that includes pistols, a revolver, uzi, or even a shotgun. On our path, we encounter not only hostile people and wild animals, but also fantasy creatures straight from myths and legends.
Each of the games included in the set introduces specific novelties related to mechanics. While in Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation the levels became larger and non-linear, and Lara learned to climb poles or swing on ropes, in Tomb Raider: Chronicles the protagonist can walk on ropes.
In Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness the archaeologist can chat with other characters and develop her skills as she progresses, and her range of moves has been significantly expanded. Moreover, the third of the mentioned games allows us to take control of another character – Kurtis.
Technical aspects
When preparing the Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered collection, the companies Aspyr and Crystal Dynamics followed the path set by the previous compilation. The authors focused primarily on the graphics, replacing textures and thoroughly refreshing the character models, as well as increasing the resolution. Just like before, there is nothing stopping us from switching to the original visuals at any time. An additional modern control scheme was also prepared (by default the game uses the classic tank controls scheme).

Completexbox: 70 / 100 by Dan Boise
Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered is a nice nostalgia package for those who grew up with the original Tomb Raider games. Aspyr added a few interesting perks here and there across all three games, especially for Angel of Darkness where they added cut content and improved the story telling; among other perks. While these are more approachable than the previous remastered trilogy, they still show their age. Players with the patience and curious about exploring Lara Croft’s past, Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered is a good option.
Nintendo Life: 6 / 10 by Oliver Reynolds
Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered is an odd release in that only one of its three games can be considered a genuine classic. Yet despite this, it's still a collection we'd tentatively recommend checking out if only to appreciate how such an iconic video game series was almost completely derailed. The remastered visual upgrades – particularly in the fourth and fifth entries – don't always work, but the addition of 60fps performance alongside the retro aesthetics is very welcome indeed. If you're a fan of Tomb Raider or enjoy revisiting flawed curios from days gone by, this might be worth looking into, but this isn't essential like Aspyr's previous Tomb Raider collection.
Xbox Achievements: 80 / 100 by Josh Wise

- Visual Upgrades: The remastered graphics for "Tomb Raider IV" and "Tomb Raider V" received high praise for their stunning visuals and attention to detail, with many textures and models significantly improved.

The main cons of the game
- Inconsistent Quality: While TR4 and TR5 were well-received, AoD was criticized for being incomplete, with many character models not remastered and some textures appearing outdated.
- Control Issues: Despite improvements, AoD still suffered from clunky controls and awkward movement mechanics, reminiscent of the original game.
- Bugs and Glitches: Users reported various bugs, including audio issues, graphical glitches, and game-breaking bugs, particularly in AoD.
- Limited New Content: Some players were disappointed that AoD did not include as much new content as expected, feeling that it was rushed and lacked the polish of the other remasters.
The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users
- Character Model Updates: Many NPCs in AoD did not receive upgraded models, leading to a jarring visual contrast with remastered characters.
- Reflections and Lighting Effects: Users noted the absence of certain visual effects, like reflections and improved lighting, which were present in the original game but missing in the remaster.
- Gameplay Mechanics: Some players expressed a desire for more streamlined gameplay mechanics, such as improved inventory management and options to skip tutorial dialogues.

- New Game+ Features: Users noted the absence of features like New Game+ that would allow players to retain abilities or items from previous playthroughs.
Summary
- In summary, while the remaster of "Tomb Raider IV-VI" offers significant improvements and nostalgia for fans, "Angel of Darkness" in particular has faced criticism for its incomplete state and lingering issues. Players are hopeful for future patches to address these concerns.
