Dead Rising Video Game Series
A series of action games set in a post-zombie apocalypse world. The series was started by Capcom, which still maintains development and publishing control over it to this day.. From 2010 to 2017 its development was handled by Capcom Vancouver studio, formerly known as Blue Castle Games.
A brief history of the Dead Rising series
For the "fathers" of the series Dead Rising can be considered Keiji Inafune and Yoshinori Kawano of the Capcom Production Studio 1 team. The first installment of the series, viz. Dead Rising, debuted in 2005 as an exclusive title for the Xbox 360. The production garnered very good reviews from industry critics and gained the sympathy of gamers, and over the following years it appeared on other platforms - from the Nintendo Wii (with the version of Chop Till You Drop), through iOS mobile devices (2010), and finally on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC (2016).
In the meantime, the title lived to see a sequel, the 2010-released game Dead Rising 2, whose debut was preceded by making available to Xbox gamers its prologue entitled Dead Rising 2: Case Zero. The item debuted on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, but in 2016 it also appeared on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The Xbox 360 version lived to see an exclusive add-on - the Dead Rising 2: Case West, while 2011 brought the debut of a standalone expansion being a modified version of this position, namely Dead Rising 2: Off the Record.
In 2013, the game came to Xbox One, and less than a year later to personal computers Dead Rising 3, meant to be a sort of new opening in the history of the series. In 2016, it was followed by the game Dead Rising 4, which additionally came to PlayStation 4 in 2017 (it was initially only available on PC and Xbox One). It is unofficially known that a fifth part of the series was also being created, but eventually that project was canceled.
As a result, for the release of the next item under the banner of Dead Rising fans had to wait until 2024. At that time, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and personal computers hit Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster; as the title suggested, we were dealing with a refreshed version of the first part of the series.
The plot in the Dead Rising series games
The common denominator of the games in the series Dead Rising is the theme of the zombie apocalypse. In the first installment of the series, its outbreak occurs in the fictional American town of Willamette. The main character of this entry, who must investigate the case and come out of it in one piece, is press photographer Frank West. Action Dead Rising 2 was set five years after the events of the "one", in Fortune City, where former motocross champion Chuck Green is trying to save his infected daughter. W Dead Rising 3 Nick Ramos joined the ranks of characters who must face the hordes of the living dead, while the whole story had a slightly more serious and darker tone. The fourth installment of the series allows us to once again take on the role of Frank West and once again explore the town of Willamette.
Gameplay in Dead Rising series games
In productions under the banner of Dead Rising the action is viewed from a third-person perspective (TPP). The crux of the gameplay is survival in an environment overrun by hordes of zombies. At the same time the player has a lot of freedom in exploring vast locations, performing tasks and eliminating opponents in a variety of ways (primarily with firearms and white weapons).
As we progress, we gain access to more and more advanced murder tools, which we find or digest on our own. In addition, the third part of the series introduced an uncomplicated character development system, which also allows us to gradually face more and more challenges.
In addition, an important role in the titles under the banner of Dead Rising plays an important role in Dead Rising titles; while some clothes such as masks, overalls and uniforms provide us with various bonuses, others were implemented for humorous purposes.
Modes in Dead Rising series games
First Dead Rising allowed only to play alone. Dead Rising 2 brought a cooperative multiplayer mode, and the path set by the sequel was also followed by the third and fourth installments of the series.
The success of the Dead Rising series games
By September 30, 2023, the series Dead Rising had distributed 16 million copies worldwide, making it the sixth most recognized brand in Capcom's portfolio.

The fourth installment in a series of zombie-themed, third-person action games developed by Capcom. The story campaign brings a continuation to the storylines presented in the first installment. The player assumes the role of Frank West (appeared first in the original game) - a photographer trapped in a town overrun by hordes of zombies. During the Christmas period, he has to somehow survive through a period of several days, waiting for help to arrive. The player explores an open game world and completes many story-based missions and side quests focusing mainly on exterminating large numbers of undead. In combat, the player makes use of everything within the protagonist's reach. However, all the weapons get damaged and destroyed relatively fast, which forces the protagonist to experiment all the time - this means building more and more sophisticated weapons. Apart from the story mode, Dead Rising 4 offers a co-op experience as usual. In this mode, the players face subsequent hordes of zombies side by side.

The third installment in a series of original action games focusing on spectacular encounters with hordes of murderous zombies. The game was created by the fathers of the franchise - Capcom, though the player assumes the role of a completely new character here - Nick Ramos. As usual, Dead Rising 3 is set in an open environment, in which the protagonist completes a series of different tasks, eliminating entire crowds of zombies along the way. Sophisticated weapons made of various objects found and created on the fly are the hallmark of the series. Both exploration and elimination of enemies are also facilitated by use of different vehicles. In terms of visuals, the third installment presents a more serious art style, though the screen is still dominated by hordes of enemies and gallons of blood. What's important is that the maximum number of enemies that can be displayed on the screen at the same time is now three times larger than before. The graphics fully employ the potential of modern PC hardware and 8th-gen consoles.
