RuneScape is a fantasy MMORPG. The game was developed by the British studio Jagex. The game made its debut as a browser title in 2001 and since then it has undergone several major metamorphoses, each time changing the engine and many elements of the gameplay. In 2010 the project got a standard PC version with a separate client, and in October 2020 made his debut on Steam.

It is a free game with micropayments. Optionally, it is possible to pay a subscription, which provides access to additional content, including skills, items and even a large set of new adventures.

Plot

The action of the game takes place in a magical fantasy land known as Gielinor. The fate of this world is mainly shaped by mortals, but the ancient gods have not abandoned their conspiracies and are still trying to influence the lives of the inhabitants.

RuneScape offers an extremely rich world, with an extensive history that has been continuously developed since its launch in 2001.

Mechanics

RuneScape is a classic MMORPG. We start the game by creating a hero, choosing from an extensive list of races and professions. Then we set out to search for adventure. During the game we perform quests, collect items and fight with the help of a skirmish system in which character statistics play a greater role than our reflexes. Thanks to the variety of weapons, attacks and skills, the battle mechanics are quite extensive and offer a lot of depth and tactical freedom.

During the adventures we gain experience and develop the skills of characters divided into several categories (from fighting to crafting). These include combat skills, magic, ore mining, fishing, cooking and crafting. The game also includes cooperative mini-games, trading, and the possibility of PvP combat with other players. A crafting system is also available, allowing you to construct your own items, as well as the option of running a farm and farming.

RuneScape offers a sandbox approach to the MMORPG genre. Interaction with other players is crucial, and the situation in the virtual world is largely shaped by the players themselves.

Technical aspects

The current version of RuneScape is actually RuneScape 3. At the premiere of each new incarnation, it replaces the previous one, but the old ones remain available as additional options for the most loyal fans.

Modern RuneScape offers a simple but pleasing three-dimensional graphic design, made in a light-coloured, slightly cartoon-like style.
