GBAtemp: 9 / 10 by Krista Noren
Last Epoch is a very high quality product, that is clearly the reward of many years of hard work and dedication. Despite not being at the finish line yet, this title in early access far exceeds many in its genre on multiple fronts. It’s a wonderful and full package, and it’s exciting to realize there’s more yet to come. Development is clearly active, releasing a major patch between writing this review and publishing it. I have no qualms recommending it to fans of action RPGs, you will find much to enjoy in this title. There’s no doubt in my mind i’ll keep coming back to try new classes, and new builds. And i’ll definitely get the damn squirrel helmet! So if you’re a fan of this style of game, it’s time kick some dinosaurs in the teeth whilst you journey to the ends of time itself.

All in all, Last Epoch has grown to become the APRG game for ARPG fans with a very passionate dev team. This can be seen in the moment to moment crunchy gameplay, endless stash tabs, and sort button for every inventory. If you’re a fan of ARPGs, then you have nothing to lose and everything to gain from giving this gem a try.
PCGamesN: 8 / 10 by Ken Allsop
Last Epoch is an ARPG that puts mechanics first, and does so with a resounding sense of class identity. Its player-friendly design ensures you have all the tools you need for the job, and rivals such as Diablo 4 and Path of Exile 2 would do well to pay attention to some of its smartest innovations.
The main pros of the game
- Skill Customization: The game offers an outstanding skill tree system, allowing for extensive character build diversity and experimentation.
- Crafting System: Players appreciate the deterministic crafting mechanics, which provide a sense of control over gear progression.
- Engaging Gameplay: Many users find the overall gameplay enjoyable, with a mix of classic ARPG elements and fresh twists.
- Clear In-Game Guidance: The game includes comprehensive guides and a user-friendly loot filter, reducing the need for external resources.
- Offline Mode: Players value the ability to play entirely offline, which is a significant draw compared to other titles.
- Potential for Growth: Many reviews express optimism about the game's future, citing the developers' responsiveness to community feedback and ongoing updates.
The main cons of the game
- Incomplete Story: Several users criticize the campaign for feeling unfinished, with an abrupt conclusion and lack of engaging narrative.
- Endgame Content Issues: There are complaints about the endgame grind being repetitive and lacking variety, leading to a feeling of stagnation after reaching max level.
- Performance Problems: Some players report significant framerate drops and bugs, especially during endgame activities, making the game difficult to play at times.
- Loot System Frustrations: A common complaint is that the gear drops often feel lackluster or irrelevant, leading to frustration when trying to find meaningful upgrades.
- Technical Issues: Frequent disconnects and crashes, particularly in online mode, have been reported, impacting the overall experience.
The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users
- Expanded Endgame Activities: Many players desire more engaging endgame content beyond the current offerings, such as additional challenges or varied gameplay loops.
- Improved Storytelling and Lore: Users are looking for a more cohesive and compelling narrative that enhances the overall experience.
- Greater Difficulty Options: Some players feel that the game lacks sufficient challenge and would benefit from adjustable difficulty settings to keep the gameplay engaging.
- Better Animation and Graphics: There are requests for improved animations and graphical fidelity, as some players find the current state lacking compared to other ARPGs.
- Map and Location Persistence: Users have noted a need for better mechanics regarding map persistence and event continuity, which would enhance immersion.
Summary
- Overall, Last Epoch presents a promising ARPG experience with a strong foundation in skill customization and crafting, but it faces challenges in storytelling, endgame content, and technical stability that need to be addressed for it to reach its full potential.

Last Epoch Description
Last Epoch is an action RPG developed by independent studio Eleventh Hour Games. The title was developed thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter.
Story
Last Epoch takes us to the fantasy land of Eterra, which is devoured by a dark force called the Void. In order to ensure their survival, its inhabitants hid in an underground city. Fortunately, not everything is lost - the main character, who is one of the survivors, goes in search of the title artifact, which will enable him to travel in time; traversing four different incarnations of Eterra, the hero not only discovers the secrets hidden by the realm but also finds a way to stop the Void.
In addition to the four main epochs (ancient, divine, imperial and ruined), over time we have the opportunity to check out their alternative versions, which we find through the so-called Monolith of Fate so that we can continue the game even after the main plot is completed.
Mechanics
Before start playing in Last Epoch we choose one of the five basic character classes; we have a rogue, wizard, knight, acolyte, and shaman at our disposal. This is not the end of the story as we can choose the so-called master's specialization - thanks to this we can direct the character progression to a path that suits us; for example, a rogue can become a master in the use of melee weapons or an archer, while an acolyte can become a necromancer or battle mage.
There is nothing else left to do but to start the game, during which we observe the action in isometric projection. As we play, we travel through the diverse versions of the land of Eterra and carry out story tasks and side missions, facing hordes of enemies. In addition, we increase the hero's combat potential by unlocking and developing their skills (each of them has an extensive tree of improvements) and statistics, as well as acquiring better and better equipment.
What equipment can be used by heroes is decided by the class of our choice; moreover, individual items can only be found in a particular era - if we want to move them from one era to another, we can use a special cache that exists beyond space-time. Nothing stands in the way of upgrading our arsenal, weapons, and gadgets with the crafting system or getting rid of unnecessary ballast by selling it to vendors.
Game modes
Last Epoch enables us to have fun both solo and with up to four other players, via the Internet or a local network. All of this is complemented by the so-called Cycles, i.e. periodic events in which the devs offer unique tasks and objects.
Technical aspects
Last Epoch features high-quality three-dimensional visuals; the most noteworthy are the special effects associated with casting spells and the use of advanced skills, although we may also like the detailed design of enemy models and the detailed and varied environment.
