Kingdom: Two Crowns
Strategy 11 December 2018
Another incarnation of a minimalistic real-time strategy with RPG elements, developed by an independent studio called noio. Like in the original Kingdom for PC Windows and mobile devices, in Kingdom: Two Crowns, the player assumes the role of a king tasked with taking care of his loyal subjects and providing for them. Unlike the original release, in Kingdom: Two Crowns the player can enjoy both single player and cooperative game modes. During the game, one observes the action from the side perspective. Gameplay revolves around two main aspects – the first one being exploration (during which one can acquire gold they can give to the encountered settlers), while the second one focuses on expanding the settlement by erecting production buildings, creating tools for the settlers, and building diverse fortifications, which prove useful after dusk. During the night, one’s domain is attacked by vicious trolls and the player has to pay careful attention to their crown, because when it falls into enemy hands, the game is over. Luckily, the player can unlock numerous perks on their adventures to stand a better chance against the increasingly powerful foes. The game features simple, yet pleasing pixel-art visuals.
Kingdom: New Lands
Strategy 09 August 2016
An improved version of the old-school, minimalistic strategy game, Kingdom, that was released in 2015 by two independent developers nicknamed noio and Licorice. Similarly as in the original game, in the new title the player assumes the role of a king who travels through the world and uses his wealth to gain new subjects and expand his domain. As the game progresses, the king gains access to new craftsmen as well as production and military buildings. He is tasked with providing his followers with welfare and safety. In comparison to the first version of the game, in Kingdom: New Lands the main objective is to find and rebuild a boat that allows us to swim to new areas where the whole game basically starts all over again. In addition to that, the game introduces many novelties like bigger areas to explore, seasons cycle and previously unavailable options, tools and upgrades.
Kingdom: Classic
Strategy 21 October 2015
A minimalistic strategy game with RPG elements, which is a commercial version of a popular flash title of the same name, developed by Dutch studio noio. The player assumes the role of a king, traversing the world, who acquires new subjects by giving gold to settlers. As a result, newly recruited subjects build and develop villages, creating tools, weapons, and fortifications essential for defense against raiding trolls. Compared to the original flash version, new edition offers a bigger and more developed world. New methods of defense were introduced, as well as randomly generated challenges, awaiting in nearby forests. The game also contains a dynamic weather system, and fire mechanics – both these elements can have a positive, as well as negative impact on our kingdom. As one of the mainstays of the game, the title reprises pixel-art visuals, and complete lack of any user interface.
