A visual novel adventure game developed by studio 5pg. The game is an improved version of the independent game created by Makoto Kedouin and originally released in 1996. Corpse Party takes place in a high school building that was built on the ruins of an old grade school in which a terrible and mysterious crime has occurred. One day, due to unexplainable events, a group of students enters a terrible and grotesque version of their school in which the corridors are filled with decomposing corpses. Trapped in the building, the main characters must face the mysteries of the building and the revenge-seeking ghosts of the dead children. The game uses typical gameplay mechanics of visual novel games, although it also contains exploration and even action sequences. The story has several different endings that depend on the choices made by the player.

A detective adventure game from the visual novel genre. It was developed by Japan studio Spike Chunsoft. The main protagonist of Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, Naegi Makoto, is a teenager who starts his education in an elite high school. In contrast to his colleagues, he has no remarkable achievements and he was accepted to the school by winning a lottery. Soon after the school year starts, Makoto and a group of other students are trapped inside the school building and a digitally-controlled mascot informs them that, in order to escape from the trap, one of them must murder someone else in such way that it will be impossible to find out who is guilty. The game is divided into three separate phases. First the player speaks with selected students, builds relations and learns interesting facts. When the murder happens, the player is tasked with gathering evidence and testimonies. Finally the action moves to a court room where during a trial one must find out who the murderer is through a series of minigames.
Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair

A sequel to the detective adventure visual novel released in 2010 by Spike Chunsoft. In Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair the player assumes the role of a completely new protagonist named Hajime Hinata. He is accepted to an elite high school despite the fact that he cannot remember what he did to earn that honor. During one of the school trips the class of the protagonist is imprisoned on a tropical island. In order to escape, the students must murder one of their friends and avoid being caught by their colleagues. The gameplay mechanics are based on the same principles as the original game and they are split into three separate phases, in which one must first participate in conversations, then gather testimonies and evidence in the murder case, and finally go to a trial and type the murderer.

The third full-fledged installment in the series of mystery thriller adventure visual novels developed by Spike Chunsoft. The plot of Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony tells the story of a kidnapped high school student named Kaede Akamatsu. Together with other students, he is taken to a school called Gifted Inmates Academy. The academy’s director is a teddy bear named Monokuma. He informs his “guests” that the only way to escape the place is to kill another student in such way that no one catches you during the investigation. The game employs gameplay mechanics known from previous entries in the series. The gameplay is divided into two main parts: School Life and Class Trial. In the first part the player interacts with other students, creates relations and pushes the story forward. Once a murder occurs, the gameplay mechanics change and the player focuses on conducting an investigation during which he learns testimonies and statements of various people, he looks for evidence etc.

A sequel to the Japanese game developed by studio 5pb. in 2010. The game combines old school, two-dimensional horror with the visual novel genre. The story of Corpse Party: Book of Shadows relates to events depicted in the original game and sheds new light on the plot and characters that were shown there. The game consists of seven chapters which present separate stories in which the protagonists from the original game participate. Various scenarios continue or precede the story of Corpse Party and or depict its alternative versions. In contrast to the first game in the series, which was similar to classic, two-dimensional jRPGs, this time the game is a regular adventure game with a point-and-click interface and visual novel elements.

An Octave Higher takes us to Overture, the capital city of a mighty empire which has quickly grown in stature thanks to the employment of magic. The will to research this phenomenon led to the introduction of a new social system that divides people based on their magical abilities. As the system destroys the class balance, the country, as well as Overture, is in imminent threat of a nation-wide uprising. The plot revolves around three characters – a factory worker named Elise, Franz – a scholar, and Frederic, a member of one of the noble families. Each of the heroes stems from a different background, but a matter of an inconspicuous piano will connect their fates, creating a friendship of people whose adventures will shape the outcome of the inevitable rebellion. When it comes to gameplay, the game is a typical visual novel – the player follows the plot and decides upon the course of action during various situations that may or may not shape the outcome of the story.

Another installment in the series of Japanese survival horror visual novels developed by 5pb. Corpse Party: Blood Drive takes place after the events shown in Book of Shadows and concentrates on one of its protagonists, Ayumi Shinozaki. The girl's new adventure starts when her aunt visits her. She informs her that since centuries the duty of the Shinozaki family is to guard the mysterious Book of Shadows which, should it fall in the wrong hands, might lead the world to doom. The artifact is said to be hidden in an old mansion of her relatives and Ayumi embarks on a journey to find it. The mechanics of the game combine solutions used in previous installments of the series. The action is shown from an isometric perspective and the gameplay focuses on exploration, riddle solving and making decisions that impact the plot. Since the game was released on new generation of Sony handheld consoles, it features much better graphics, retaining its manga style, however.
