If My Heart Had Wings, released on AND, iOS and PC, is a Japanese visual novel. It was developed by Pulltop and translated into English by MoeNovel.

Plot

The action of If My Heart Had Wings takes place in Kazegura, a town located near Tokyo, and it tells the story of a group of students of the Keifu University of Technology. The main character is a boy named Aoi Minase. Until recently, his dreams revolved solely around cycling, but that dream ended when he got into a serious accident, which for good has ruined the chances for a sports career. The crushed boy returns to his home town, where, as a result of a series of events, he is dragged into a reactivated club whose aim is to construct a glider.

All members of this group, like Minase, were in some way harmed by fate. For example, a girl named Kotori Habane rides in a wheelchair, her friend Ageha Himegi has a broken heart, and Amane Mochizuki graduated from high school a long time ago, but every year she enrolls in the Academy to fulfill the dream of her deceased friend. During the story, which lasts about thirty hours, we can see how the characters help each other to deal with past traumas and reopen to life.

Mechanics

If My Heart Had Wings is a typical visual novel. This means that the gameplay boils down mainly to reading texts and watching the accompanying images. From time to time, we are faced with the choice of one of several alternative actions. The decisions direct the story to one of several separate story paths. Each of them is drastically different from the others, including the ending. You have to go through the game many times in order to get to know all the stories contained in the game.

Technical aspects

If My Heart Had Wings offers good audiovisuals. Graphics, although mostly static, impresses with detailed and colorful backgrounds and nice character designs. The visuals are accompanied by a catchy soundtrack.
