Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony Anniversary Edition Description
Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony for PC, PS4 and PSV is the third installment of the series of visual novels. This installment was announced during the Tokyo Game Show 2015. It was developed by Spike Chunsoft – a studio known for creating titles like: Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon, Etrian Mystery Dungeon, Attack on Titan: Humanity in Chains and Conception: Please Give Birth to My Child!
Plot
The plot of Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony tells the story of a kidnapped high school student named Kaede Akamatsu. Together with some other students, he is taken to a school called Gifted Inmates Academy. A teddy bear named Monokuma tells the “guests” that he is the director of the facility and that in order to get out of there they must kill another student in such way that they won’t be caught during an investigation.
Mechanics
Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony is a full-fledged installment of the series. It uses mechanics and ideas from two first installments of the series – Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc and Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. The title doesn’t have much in common with the spin-off Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls released in 2014 which was a three-dimensional action game.
The gameplay is divided into two main parts: School Life and Class Trial. In the first one the player is interacting with other characters and he pushes the story forward. However, a murder happens after a while and the Class Trial begins. It is an investigation in which the player listens to testimonies and statements of various characters, looks for evidence etc. It ends with a court trial consisting of series of action-logical minigames. The so-called Truth Bullets enable the player to discover whether someone is saying truth or lie. Additionally, it is possible to use Lie Bullets to interrupt the statements, making things harder for the more convincing liars. These are useful when the conversation isn’t going as the player would wish and it is hard for him to get truth from the investigated person. In Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony there are new mechanics as well, including Mass Panic Debates – conversations of many characters at once, during which it is much harder to find the murderer.
Misc.
Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony was a great success in Japan. The title received very high scores from the media, including 37/40 from Famitsu. Additionally, it sold more than 100,000 copies during its first week since debuting.
