Gary Grigsby's War in the West Description
Gary Grigsby's War in the West for PC is another turn-based strategy war game by 2BY3 Games, whose name, as the creators claim, is short for “World War II by Three Guys.” The studio was founded in 2001 by one of the most respected strategy game developers, Gary Grigsby, whose portfolio includes over 30 games, e.g. acclaimed series Steel Panthers.
Plot
The game is a direct sequel to the 2010 production Gary Grigsby's War in the East, although unlike the predecessor, it focuses on the Western Front of World War II. The events in the game start in 1943 with the invasion on Sicily and Italy, follow the battles in France, and end with the assault on Germany in 1945. Leading the Allies, you can recreate those events or change the history by playing according to your own strategy.
Mechanics
The games in the Gary Grigsby's War was announced to be the most ambitious, detailed and realistic war game series ever; this is also true of War in the West. Such elements as the new, detailed map of Europe, faithfully recreated units, vehicles, and planes, realistic logistics and support, dynamic weather and economic aspects make this game a great pick for seasoned strategy game players.
War in the West features 3 large campaigns (from 62 to 209 turns) and seven minor scenarios (from 4 to 42 turns), where each turn is an equivalent of a real-life week. The battles take place both on land and in the air on a map divided into 36 thousand hexagons (each hex is 10 miles large). The battles involve 14 Allies' countries and 5 Axis countries, and the soldiers are grouped into divisions, battalions, regiments, and brigades. There's also an option to control the Eastern Front, allowing you to relocate the troops stationed in the east to the west and the other way around, depending on what is happening on the front.
Technical aspects
The game utilizes the same engine as its predecessor, but it has been enhanced and new functions have been added. The visuals inspired by the classics of the genre match modern turn-based strategy games standards. There's also a functional editor, which allows you to create your own scenarios. For player-vs-player fans, there is the option to play via e-mail, thanks to the PBEM++ system servers.

October 8, 2015
An expansion for the turn-based strategy game Gary Grisby's War in the West. It was developed by 2BY3 Games. The expansion consists mostly of 10 new scenarios. You can participate e.g. in Operation Dragoon in the 1944 France or one of the Battles of Monte Casino, called Operation Diadem. Moreover, Operation Torch also allows you to play through an alternate version of World War II, in which Hitler is killed in 1943, and the Third Reich is more powerful than in real life. The gameplay of Gary Grigsby's War in the West: Operation Torch is identical to that in the core game — it's still quite complex, and the visuals are rather minimalistic.
