A Canadian development studio based in Quebec City, which has been owned by Activision since 2005. Beenox focuses primarily on creating ports of games from the publishing giant's catalog, though its portfolio also includes several original productions. Titles developed by this team have been released on both PC and consoles.

History

Beenox was founded in 2000. After releasing its debut game, Pillars of Garendall, the team spent nearly seven years working primarily on ports for Activision. Thanks to the studio's work, PC players received titles such as Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4, Kelly Slater's Pro Surfer, Wakeboarding Unleashed Featuring Shaun Murray, Tony Hawk's Underground 2, Pitfall: The Lost Expedition, Shrek 2: Team Action, Madagascar, Fantastic 4, Ultimate Spider-Man, Gun, Over the Hedge, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, X-Men: The Official Game, Cars, Spider-Man 3: The Game, and Spider-Man: Friend or Foe. All of this led the studio to join the publishing giant in 2005, becoming one of its internal development teams.

In 2007, the team released its second original production, Bee Movie Game, based on the animated hit Bee Movie. Two years later, the team developed more titles: a game adaptation of the film Monsters vs. Aliens and the next entry in the Guitar Hero series, Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits.

Before the studio began its long-running work on the Spider-Man franchise in 2010, it released a series of titles between 2008 and 2010. In 2008, PC versions of Kung Fu Panda, Barbie Fashion Show: An Eye for Style, and 007: Quantum of Solace were released (the latter also reaching the Nintendo Wii thanks to Beenox). In 2009, the developers brought Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen to PC.

In 2010, Beenox released its first original game, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, set in the Spider-Man universe. The project was such a commercial and critical success that its sequel, Spider-Man: Edge of Time, followed a year later. In 2013, the team released The Amazing Spider-Man, a tie-in to the movie of the same name. When its sequel came out two years later, it met the same fate. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 received a lukewarm reception from both players and critics, marking Beenox's departure from the franchise.

Nevertheless, the team remained fully occupied. Between 2014 and 2015, they co-developed three entries in the Skylanders series (Trap Team, SuperChargers, and SuperChargers Racing), collaborated on Call of Duty: Black Ops III for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2015, and in 2016 created a remastered version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. In 2018, Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII was released, with the studio responsible for bringing it to personal computers.
