Duke Nukem: Land of the Babes Description
Continuation of Duke Nukem: Time to Kill, released in 1998, which slightly changes the assumptions of the original. Duke Nukem: Land of the Babes is based on the typical TPP action game schemes, offering a mix of shooting, arcade elements and simple logic challenges.
Plot
Duke learns that in the future aliens have murdered all men on Earth and enslaved women. With the help of the portal, he moves in time to help rebel women fighting against aliens and liberate the world. On-site, he discovers that the main scientist of the resistance movement, Houston, was abducted by enemies. Duke sets out to rescue her, gradually discovering the secrets of the mysterious plan of the invaders.
Mechanics
Land of the Babes is an extension of its predecessor. Just like in Time to Kill, the action is presented from behind the character's back. Players have to kill enemies, deal with various arcade challenges and solve simple logic puzzles. The creators added a few new types of weapons and some of them got modified. The sequel adds levels taking place underwater and in space. The ego system, which Duke refills by killing enemies and collecting useful items, also adds to the fun.
Game modes
Land of the Babes doesn't only feature single-player modes. The deathmatch mode, available for two players, is played in split-screen mode. The duels can take place on several maps referring to individual levels from the story mode and the players can use all the equipment available for Duke.
Technical aspects
3D Realms production is a typical sequel, where the game engine has been only slightly improved and the gameplay mechanics have been slightly modified. Land of the Babes, compared to its predecessor, is distinguished by a higher level of difficulty, as well as the introduction of the automatic lock-on targeting, which affects the combat system.
