When Free Isn't Enough - Games That Went Free-to-Play and Died Anyway
It would seem that making your game available for free is a measure of last resort that always works. It turns out, however, that some productions weren't saved even by this change.

Battlerite Description
Battlerite is an online battle game released on PC and XONE. It combines the features of MOBA and action genres. The title was developed by Swedish studio Stunlock, the creators of Bloodline Champions and Dead Island: Epidemic.
Mechanics
Battlerite for PC and XONE focuses on rivalry between two teams of players in 2v2 and 3v3 matches. Each participant controls a single character. The title offers a roster of varied characters with unique weapons and fighting styles consisting of various special techniques. The matches last 10-15 minutes and during them the protagonist gathers experience and unlocks new abilities in his individual development tree.
At first glance the title might seem to be a regular MOBA game, but similarly as Bloodline Champions, Battlerite doesn’t follow the path created by Dota. The title lacks any bases, towers or allied units controlled by artificial intelligence. Instead, it offers open arenas on which the gameplay is focused only on direct deathmatches.
The game has a strongly action-based combat system. The action is presented from a top-down perspective and the mechanics are based on shooters and other action games that use similar perspective. The character is controlled by using the WASD keys and each attack must be first correctly aimed with the mouse. The pace of the game is high and dodging is the key to winning.
Each time someone dies, the time in the game becomes temporarily slowed down, allowing the players to catch their breath, analyze the situation and prepare new tactics. The crowd present on the arenas is an important aspect of the gameplay as well. Gaining the crowd’s favor provides rewards.
