Absolver Description
Absolver is a third-person fantasy action game released for PC, PS4 and XONE. This is a debut project of a French studio Sloclap, founded by veterans from Ubisoft, who previously worked on Watch Dogs and several installments in the Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon series.
Plot
The game is set in a fantasy realm styled after the Far East, the so-called empire of Adal. This used to be a powerful nation, but its position has been becoming weaker and weaker over the years. The game starts off soon after the power in Adal falls into the hands of a new group, known as the Guides, who intend to restore the empire to its former glory. To this end an organization called Absolvers is created. They are elite warriors, whose task is to safeguard peace and stability. The player assumes the role of one of the candidates wishing to join the order.
Mechanics
While playing Absolver PC, PS4 and XONE you get to explore the world, complete missions and, most importantly, fight enemies. The heart of gameplay is the complex system of short-range combat. The game lets you use four fighting styles interchangeably, all of which offer a wide array of melee weapons, starting with character’s own fists. Gameplay allows for dealing various strikes, counters, blocks and dodges. Players can also design their own combinations of attacks, using a special wheel menu, that match their preferred tactics.
You make use of all that on big three dimensional interactive maps, while having full freedom of movement. The game also offers a character progression system, which lets you learn new techniques and acquire better equipment.
Game modes
Absolver lets you play on your own, as it offers rich background story, and the events in the entire game world are shaped by successes and failures of individual players; however, the game is focused on multiplayer. While playing online, players can form teams and together explore ruins and dungeons across the realm of Adal. There is also PvP, which puts players on special arenas fighting 1v1 duels or group battles of 3v3.
Technical aspects
The game sports impressive visuals based on flat geometry and bright colors, combining art style of classic fantasy and Oriental elements. Character models and environments are rather simple and a bit blocky, which, all things considered, looks attractive and elegant.
