The story takes place in a desert town in Texas, where the protagonist finds himself in search of a sister. He finds an atmosphere of fear and distrust caused by sinister cultists, and soon comes to fight for survival. The game combines a dramatic struggle with exploratory elements in locations with a partially open structure.

The plot sees us assume control of Ryunosuke Naruhodo, a XIX-century Japanese lawyer who is an ancestor of Phoenix Wright (Ryuichi Naruhodo in the Japanese version). During the game, our goal is to defend our clients and help them by getting them acquitted, which will require private investigations, as well as taking part in hearings.

Just like in the previous games, we play as Qbby, a square character that can replicate his shape. This time, he has to save Qbabies, beings that look like smaller versions of him. As a reward for his help, they will give him additional abilities. The game is made of eighteen diverse locations where we will have to solve logical and environmental puzzles and avoid traps.
