Without Escape is the first game by indie studio Bumpy Trail Games. The production is a point-and-click game with HOPA elements.
Plot
The story of Without Escape begins on a cold winter night. After coming back home, the protagonist goes to sleep, but soon a strange noise wakes them up. When they try to identify the source of the sound, the protagonist discovers that someone turned their house into a nightmarish place resembling hell. From that moment onward, they try to solve the mystery of the transformation and to find a way to escape. The story is non-linear and has multiple endings.
Mechanics
Without Escape is based on many games of the same genre released in the 1990s, including the bestselling Myst series. Even though it's an FPP game, you can't freely move around the locations, as they're presented as pre-rendered, mostly static scenes. In the rooms you can find interactive elements and objects (usually well-hidden), which are used to solve logic puzzles. Despite the dark atmosphere, the game features many Easter eggs, as well as pop-culture and other video game references.
Technical aspects
The visuals of Without Escape are very detailed. The game features a user-friendly interface and can be played by using a mouse and a keyboard or a pad.
