A sequel to the popular Mount & Blade game series, which skillfully combined action with strategy and RPG elements. The sequel was developed by the creators of the original game – Turkish developer TaleWorlds. The story throws you right into the dark Medieval Times, forcing you to adapt to that harsh reality. Two of the game's most characteristic features are the open world and complete freedom to your actions.

PlayStation Universe: 9 / 10 by John-Paul Jones
Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord roundly excels because it lets players be whatever they want to be and rather than penalise those choices, instead makes players own those decisions and provide a peerless theatre for them to thrive. Though technically not perfect, Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord invites players to weave their own tapestry of ambition and be whomever they like in their own Game of Thrones, letting them wage war, engage in diplomacy, fight in the arenas, trade illicit goods, be a town alderman and absolutely everything in between in one of the most ambitious PS5 games to date. If you'll let it, Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord II will become your new obsession. And you should.

For everyone else, there is nothing quite like Mount & Blade. This expansive, massive, deeply immersive blend of open world, open-ended RPG and medieval strategy might be the biggest time sink on the PlayStation 5, but it’s also one of the most rewarding. The stories of heroics and failures that you can write for yourself while playing this game are positively Shakesperean, and this is one of those rare times where failure is as entertaining as success, because there’s an excellent, emergent story in that.
TheSixthAxis: 7 / 10 by Jim Hargreaves
My return to Calradia wasn't entirely jubilant, though Mount & Blade 2 Bannerlord is a game I'll likely stick with, simply due to my love of the original. A wealth of new systems and activities help this sandbox strategy sim feel more alive than ever, though the busywork required to get anywhere can feel like a grind. Overall, existing fans will rejoice while newcomers may look on unimpressed, unsure what all the fuss is about.
The main pros of the game
- Combat System: Many users praised the deep and engaging combat mechanics, highlighting the fun of large-scale battles and tactical command of troops.
- Modding Community: The game is highly regarded for its extensive modding capabilities, allowing players to customize their experience significantly and enhance gameplay.
- Replayability: Players noted the game's high replay value, with the ability to create unique stories and experiences through different play styles and character builds.
- Strategy and Management: The game offers a blend of strategy and RPG elements, allowing players to manage armies, kingdoms, and engage in diplomacy.
- Immersive World: Users appreciated the sandbox nature of the game, where decisions impact the world and provide a sense of progression.
The main cons of the game
- Lack of Depth in RPG Elements: Several reviews pointed out that while the game excels in combat, it lacks depth in character development and storytelling, with NPCs feeling generic and unengaging.
- Bugs and Stability Issues: Many players reported frequent crashes, bugs, and performance issues, particularly after updates, leading to frustration and an unplayable experience for some.
- Perceived Abandonment by Developers: There is a sentiment that the developers have not delivered on promises for updates and new features, leaving the game feeling incomplete or abandoned.
- Repetitiveness: Users noted that gameplay can become monotonous after a certain point, particularly in the late game, where there is little new content or challenges.
The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users
- Improved Diplomacy System: Many players expressed a desire for a more robust and meaningful diplomacy system, including better alliances and trade mechanics.
- Enhanced Economy: Users indicated that the economic system feels underdeveloped, relying too heavily on simplistic mechanics rather than a dynamic, player-driven economy.
- More Faction and Relationship Depth: There is a call for more intricate relationships with NPCs and factions, as well as a greater variety of interactions beyond combat.
- Quality of Life Improvements: Players mentioned various quality-of-life enhancements that could be made, such as better save mechanics and more intuitive management systems.
Summary
- Overall, while Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord has received praise for its combat and modding capabilities, it faces criticism for its lack of depth in RPG elements, stability issues, and perceived lack of developer support.

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord Description
Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is a full-fledged sequel to a popular game series that combines elements of action, strategy, and RPG. This title was created by the authors of the original game and its many expansions – Turkish studio TaleWorlds.
Plot
The game is set 200 years before the events depicted in Mount & Blade: Warband, in a mighty realm of Calradia, whose king died without having a rightfull heir. Anarchy spread across the land, and trade routes became plagued by bandits, nomads, and mercenaries.
Fortunatelly for the country, standing on the brink of collapse, the player steps in. The role of the protagonist is to find his place in this complex political situation, subdue defiant nobles, and restore the former glory to the land as a leader of one of few available factions or a new one.
Game mechanics
The overall premise of Mount & Blade II doesn't deviate from what we saw previously. Therefore, the story is just a background for extensive gameplay, once again split into two layers: strategy and action (with RPG elements). As you play you move around a vast map of a virtual realm spanning across 230 square kilometers. You recruit warriors and adventurers in local inns, and buy food and water for your party from villages. Apart from performing story-related missions and a whole bunch of side quests, the core of gameplay consists in waging multiple battles, in which you personally command an army in over-the-shoulder view.
The second part of the Mount & Blade series brings about numerous improvements and modifications, which further emphasise the sanbox structure of the game. The character editor was expanded to let you adjust almost every element of the face and appearance of your hero.
The game is introduced by a much better tutorial, The gameplay is now more dynamic and compelling than previously. A lot of work has been put into the combat and fortress capture systems. In battles, we can give more precise orders, and during attacks on castles, we can use siege machines to destroy certain elements of the walls with their help. A better experience is also provided by a tweaked artificial intelligence system, making our soldiers capable of making decisions on their own, so they move quickly across the battlefield, getting to the places where they are needed most in time.
Among other improvements that are worth mentioning, there is greater depth of individual characters – each of them has their own background story and profession, which may prove essential for the entire party. The game world has a life on its own – NPC you meet are busy doing their daily jobs or performing various activities. The map of Calradia also included additional interesting places outside the cities and fortresses.
The game significantly expanded the possibilities of managing our domains (imposing taxes, training warriors, directing people to build, etc.), as well as introduced an autonomous trade system, taking into account demand and supply, which allows the use of additional tactics (economic warfare, cutting off the besieged fortress from resources, etc.). The whole is complemented by an extremely extensive crafting system, thanks to which we can forge a unique sword for ourselves, deciding on its appearance and parameters.
Technical aspects
Mount & Blade II features significantly improved graphics and audio design compared to its predecessors, based on a brand new proprietary engine. The improvement can be seen both in the appearance and greater interactivity of individual locations, as well as during battles - especially those involving huge armies (such as sieges of castles). The course of battles is influenced by such factors as the season and changing weather. In addition, we can analyze each skirmish in detail, using an effective and impressive replay system. The developers also did not forget about modders, putting at their disposal an extremely functional, layer-based editor, offering great possibilities.
