Theoretically, it should go downhill for The Lord of the Rings: War in the North – it was the only game set in Middle-earth to release withing a span of a good few years. However, in practice, the critics weren't all that crazy about it – the scores were mostly around 70% – and the sentiment was largely shared by the rest of players. However, years went by and there wasn't any new RPGs set in the world of The Lord of the Rings on the horizon. And this kind of made people look a bit more warmly at the game by Snowblind Studios.
All in all, it was deserved, because it's not a bad game. Decent gameplay can encourage further fun – mindless pressing of buttons on the pad or keyboard won't work, instead you have to learn a combination of attacks, use special skills and blocks.
Slightly more hardcore fans of RPG will find a many well written conversations in War in the North. Hack'n'slash fans won't run out of all sorts of weapons and items which can be worn and adapted to their own needs to effectively pacify hosts enemies, including some well-designed bosses.
