9. Total War. The best video game series

Table of Contents

  1. Developer: Creative Assembly
  2. First game release year: 2000
  3. Number of main installments: 13

There's nothing like playing as the commander of an army in a big battle. The ninth position on our list proves that it is even more interesting than the role of an almost god in charge of the development of the whole civilization. The greatest advantage of the Total War series is perhaps its diversity. Apart from the obvious fact that it is just a very good strategy game – extremely colorful showing huge clashes of soldiers, with full control over their behavior, and taking us on an interesting journey through various historical eras, and even further!

Each installment is something completely different. Once we command medieval knights, another time we command Musketeers in tropical India, Napoleon's troops, Roman legions or goblins and orcs in the Warhammer universe. We wander through eras and dimensions like a military time traveler. We have the opportunity to test similar scenarios and tactics of war craft under completely different armaments and equipment of soldiers. Here you can really feel like a "total" general, knowing almost the whole history of wars.

I remember the smoke from Samurai muskets rising over the battlefield in Shogun Total War as it was yesterday – and that was 20 years ago! Because of the huge sentiment, the first installment of this series will probably forever be my favorite, although the next ones were only better and better. Total War is a series that has followed us almost without incident almost since the beginning of this century – and I hope it will for the next 20 years.
