The popularity of Team Fortress 2 is gradually withering, however, tens of thousands of players still play the production from Valve every day. And when it comes to their attitude, probably the best term would be "crazy." There is no place for spreading venom in this shooter. The gameplay is just so unpredictable and fast (and so frivolous!) that there's not enough time for toxic behavior.
Even though at first glance, it may seem that it's completely opposite. People in Team Fortress 2 constantly offend each other, do not necessarily want to cooperate, and, in addition, are pretty wound up. But these are just appearances. We don't want to justify any toxic behavior, of course, since as in in any network game, in TF2 we will some meet people who are, to put it mildly, uncultured. However, in most cases, it's easy to get over it. They prefer expressive, direct language, often using slang, so the first impression may be negative (erroneously).
Fortunately, different servers are available for people who don't like this manner of communicating. Some of them are designed specifically for beginners. So finding the right server, where people behave in a more civilized way, is rather easy.
