Dark Souls. Games to emotionally shatter you

Dark Souls

Genre: action RPG

Developer: FromSoftware

Release date: September 22, 2011

Dark Souls is a symbolic representative of all the FromSoftware games, generally characterized by a dark dark fantasy atmosphere and unforgiving combat. The very locations we explore in Dark Souls are gloomy enough to be quite depressing, not to mention countless deaths of our character due to high difficulty. But in fact, the essence of Dark Souls is osbcure, hidden in easily overlooked details, which put the story and lore of Souls together into a meaningful whole – even if it requires a bit of interpretation.

The stories of various side characters we meet during the game are the most poignant, yet they can be easily overlooked if we aren't attentive and inquisitive enough. In exchange for our effort, we can learn about the history of Artorias or Anastacia, which are arguably some of the saddest stories told in games. Suffice it to say that a series of films explaining the lore of Souls, eloquently called "Prepare to cry," hit millions of views, and the slogan "prepare to cry" has become a meme and a weapon in enlightening ignorant people who proclaim that the plot of the Souls is "generic" or "residual."
