Many sidequests of great variety. Our Mafia III wishlist

When it comes to open world games, a set of strict rules applies, one of them however seems to be the most important – a game like that should be full of sidequests. Sadly, that element was completely forgotten in production of Mafia II. Of course we could drive around at will, but when we got bored with sightseeing, we didn’t have much else to do. A new entry in the series should without a doubt focus more on that, and in some extent follow in GTA’s footsteps, where apart from a gangster’s bread and butter, we could partake in several non-related to the main storyline nuance activities. Want to take a hike? Rob a jewellry store? Race on the crowded streets? All of those are not only possible, but add a great amount of appeal to games made by Rockstar. That is precisely what a new Mafia should aim for.

The designers have it easy, as that time period leaves much room for extracurricular activities. Petty crimes were on the rise, the streets were governed by their own rules, and the police had a different view of justice – in other words, the layout for various sidequests is quite strong. It doesn’t matter if we were to rob a bank, take out a certain public figure or deliver a package on time – with a solid backstory behind them, additional missions are exactly what Mafia needs. Ruthlessly climbing up the ladder of a crime organization is one thing, but everyone needs a break from that every once in a while.
