Although this year's summer was better than usual, it was still not a season full of memorable, big debuts. Fortunately, the beginning of September traditionally marks the end of the summer hiatus. This month, we'll be playing a remake of the first, cult-classic Mafia, and see how the makers of the high-budget game about the Avengers have fared. Furthermore, strategists can't wait for Crusader Kings III and Iron Harvest, while fans of story-driven games will finally play the initial version of Baldur's Gate 3.

What is Mafia: Definitive Edition?
It's a comprehensive overhaul of Mafia: the City of Lost Heaven, a legendary gangster game developed in 2002 by Czech Illusion Softworks. Studio Hangar 13, which created Mafia 3 in 2016, is responsible for the new version and has been in charge of the entire brand ever since. The new edition carefully recreates the original story, expanding it with new themes and dialogues.
What new will the remake offer compared to the original Mafia?
The latest version of Mafia was redesigned from ground-up, based on the engine used in Mafia 3, and will offer much better visuals and more contemporary gameplay mechanics than the original. Lost Heaven has been expanded with new suburban locations, and gameplay will feature modernized solutions, such as minimap and the ability to change the difficulty level during the game. At the same time, distinctive elements of the original Mafia will be preserved, such as police responding to slightest misdemeanors. Another new addition will be motorbikes.
OUR EXPECTATIONS
Mafia to me is one of the games of all time. No intro impressed me as much as the journey through the city of Lost Heaven to the sound of music from a Hollywood blockbuster movie. After that, it was just as good. Slow-paced action, great plot and good missions.
The creators of the remake have jumped on the deep end, since the original game is a legend. After what they showed in Mafia 3, I have real concerns about the remake of Mafia, even if it's just a small change. I don't think my feelings have been as mixed in relation to any game. On the one hand, I can't wait to finally play it, but at the same time I'm scared to run it.
Darius Matusiak
We all know by now that a remake will not be perfect, it's probably not going to contest the GOTY title. On the other hand, the story of Thomas Angelo is a masterpiece of writing. I cannot wait for it to be told again, with modern tools, which will make it a more complete tale, with the improved graphics, physics, and realism. I can't wait to sink in. In fact, if the only thing we get is a prettier and bigger The City of Lost Heaven, I should be completely happy with it. The Mafia remake doesn't have to be astonishing; simply good will do.
