Compared to the rest of the items on this list, Blame ! is quite a recent anime production. Director Hiroyuki Seshita based the film on the manga of the same title by Tsutomu Nihei. The adaptation of the comic book original was planned since 2007, but the project ended in failure as Micott & Basara went bankrupt in 2011. In 2015, thanks to Netflix, the movie Blame! was finally aired. The production was handled by Polygon Pictures studio, which specializes in computer animation. Anime has this unusual computer style.
A world where the Internet turns against humans? Sounds just like today! But seriously – the end of humanity inflicted by man-created tech is a disturbingly popular idea. The action of Blame! takes place in a huge structure called the City. This metropolis was created using machines supervised by people through a network gene. At some point, something goes wrong and people lose control of the robots. As a result, the building grows unimaginably, and the security system begins to erradicate all humans.
Future in Blame!
The last handful of people are decimated by the plague and forced to fight to survive and live in a city governed by an advanced form of network. Hungry and terrified humans struggle with the ruthless security system and its agents – robots that are regularly sent to human settlements with quite obvious an objective. This is a cyberpunk future that's very different from our everyday lives. Is it an improbable story? It's hard to tell, given the current pace of development of technology. Here, man is nothing more than game hunted by ruthless machines.
