The new PoP is a platform game at first glance, but players will quickly discover elements typical of the metroidvania genre. There are no significant plot connections to the previous installment to be found here - this is a fresh start. We don't even play as the titular Prince of Persia, but as Sargon - one of his elite guards.
The gameplay won't surprise veterans of the genre. They will be happy about the fact that almost all aspects of the gameplay demonstrate a high level. The basics of exploring the levels are already enjoyable, featuring acrobatic maneuvers such as iconic wall-running and time manipulation. However, it's important to traverse them carefully, as the locations are teeming with traps. In addition to avoiding them, we will also deal with solving puzzles and engaging in skill-based combat. Interestingly, attacks can be combined here to create devastating combinations.
In technical terms, we are dealing with 2.5D graphics here. In practice, this means that the visuals were made in three-dimensional technology, but during the game, we only see two dimensions. Furthermore, the graphics have a distinct, cartoonish style.
