Double Dragon
- What is it? Scriptless brawler
- Where to watch (at your own risk): Amazon Prime
Let's be honest – games on Pegasus (or NES) mostly didn't impress us with complex plot and sublime dialogues. All that was only meant to justify gameplay. Besides, the creators didn't even bother pretending the game is anything more than a corny brawler, and mostly gave up on the textual layer.
Double Dragon was an extremely simple production, but incredibly playable. Unfortunately, the movie was a failure across the board. The crude dialogues and non-existent script could be forgiven, but the execution of the combat sequences is just... I mean, you have to see it. Yes, even though it's a fighting movie, the fight scenes are among its worst elements, with others being only slightly better. The choreography looks poor, the punches often fail to reach the target, and some of the actors obviously lack any technical training.
Despite all this, however, Double Dragon has a group of devoted fans. Sure, it's probably more about nostalgic memories than the value of the work itself, but one thing we can't deny – in its cheesiness, Double Dragon is really consistent.
