For years, we have heard jokes about Half-Life 3's announcement. Who knows, maybe Valve will surprise us one day. It would be somewhat similar to what we experienced when Baldur's Gate 3 was revealed. The studio that is developing it, Larian, are real experts in the classic RPG genre, known primarily for the Divinity series, including the two installments of the Original Sin sub-series – to which the new Baldur's Gate is going to be quite similar.
The creators seem to respect the heritage of BioWare, but most of all, they want to approach this upcoming hit in their own way. So, ignoring the nostalgia, they decided to give up the active-pause-based combat system and implement a turn-based one instead – elements well known from Divinity: Original Sin. At first, veterans shrugged at the idea, but as the third Baldur continued to grow in early access, they began to embrace the concept of Larian Studios. Including the representatives of the younger generation, the group of enthusiasts of the third BG has grown so much that 87% of over 45,000 reviews from Steam users are positive.
And the fact that it's Baldur's Gate mainly by name, and could as well be released as Divinity: Original Sin 3? Well, the only thing that matters seems to be creating a game to behold. Taking into account the quality of the last two Larian games, we can expect a somewhat derivative, yet still outstanding production.
