- Has this change worked out well for the show: no
- Could it affect the fate of the characters in season three: yes
Eskel's transformation and his subsequent death at the hands of Geralt must have shocked the audience. It happened quite suddenly and unexpectedly. As soon as the initial shock wears off, the issues with this change become apparent.
First, Eskel looked terrible as a leshy. While up close he looked like a monster from a decade ago, even from a distance he couldn't hold a candle to the monstrosities from The Lord of the Rings. Although Netflix hasn't released the official budget for the second season, production insider Daniel Richtman believes it's comparable to the Marvel series. This means that it's huuuuge. However, if the platform wanted to spend less money on special effects and more on salaries and sets... Well, the result was pretty poor.
From this perspective, the orgy in Kaer Morhen seems poorly justified plot-wise. A dozen or so witchers, aware that their habitat is a seemingly deserted stronghold, which even the granddaughter of Queen Cintra herself believes to be abandoned, bring a bunch of courtesans there like it's nothing out of the ordinary. "They probably won't even remember anything in the morning," says one of the witchers. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the viewer, who has no way of forgetting the orgy, Eskel and leshy plotlines.
