Game Guide - Controls, combat and Aiden's powers | Beyond Beyond Two Souls guide, walkthrough
Last update: 10 July 2019
On this page of our guide to Beyond: Two Souls we've prepared a set of information about key bindings which may help you in playing the game for the first time. You will learn how to use game controls, how to use controls during combat, and what powers Aiden has at his disposal (who accompanies Jodie throughout the game).
Controls and key bindings in Beyond: Two Souls
In Beyond: Two Souls by default you move using the left analog stick, where the right one is used for interaction with people/items marked with a white dot This way, you will perform a lot of activities available in the game. All of the remaining ones can be performed by following the instructions that appear on the screen. The game may require you to press specific buttons, lean the analog stick out in a certain way, or tilt your game pad.
What can be problematic at first, is fighting and using Aiden's powers. In the former case, you need to move the right stick appropriately, at the moment when the time stops. On the normal difficulty level, the game does not indicate the exact directions and you need to determine them looking at Jodie's movements. If you see that your character wants to perform a dodge, lean the stick towards that direction. The same goes for blocking and attacking. Always perform movements in the way the girl moves here body.
Aiden's powers
Another matter is Aiden's powers. Below, you can find a full list of these.
1. Hit - Aiden's basic power. You can use it on the objects marked with blue dots. To perform an attack, you need to pull both of the sticks back, while holding down the L1 button, and release both of them at the same moment (while still holding down L1). Sometimes, you will not be able to pull back the two blue dots to the maximum. In such a situation, release both sticks and give it another try.
Sometimes, while holding down L1, the two points will be far away from the blue dot, instead of on it. Then, you need to lean both sticks towards each other, instead of towards yourself.
2. Creation of the protective shield/Seizing somebody's mind/ Chocking - you use this power in a way similar to the hit. The difference is that you do not release the sticks and keep leaning them towards each other. You can use the shield only at the moments determined by the game, mind seizing only on the opponents that glow orange and choking on the ones glowing in red.
3. Healing - you can heal only the characters glowing green. They have additional, green, points on their bodies, which indicate the spot where the wound is. To heal a character, press and hold down the L1 bumper and lean the sticks in a way that will allow the two dots cover the green one.
4. Draining for memories- you can drain for memories both people and objects that release a small blue stream. To do that, press and hold down the L1 bumper and position the point away from Jodie right next to the stream's outlet, and the dot closer to Jodie a few centimeters higher. What you need to do here is direct the stream onto Jodie's head.
