  1. Battles in town. The city is filled with additional enemies marked as red triangles on your map. Approach the opponent to begin the battle. At first, optional battles are a good way of acquiring additional experience and freeing your stomach. If you want to avoid the encounter, avoid running next to the opponent (it attracts their attention) or escape by interacting with the world (NPCs, food, a vending machine).
  2. Heat Actions. A special type of attacks and moves that take a single ball of energy from your heat gauge. In return you can e.g. use the currently carried item to deal a lot of damage to your opponent - heat actions are a good way of eliminating more powerful enemies.

  2. Bosses. You'll take part in a lot of battles against story-important characters. These battles often enable you to pick-up objects - utilize them by using Heat Actions to strike down your opponents. Also, make use of Charge Attack.
