Crate Interactive's Farthest Frontier has been in Early Access for over two years. This title, competing with Manor Lords, was supposed to receive version 1.0 later this year, however, the developers decided to delay it. The new release date is set for spring 2025. Along with the announcement, a new trailer was published, which you can watch below.

Reasons for delay

There is a special post on the studio's website in which the devs informed about the reasons for the delay. To deliver us "the best version of Farthest Frontier they can," the creators first need to improve the game's performance, which is currently not satisfactory.

We are seeing your grand 3000+ population towns which are no doubt pushing the limits of hardware, but there is still more we could do to squeeze more frames out of the game, and we want to take the time to get it right.

The second reason is the desire to add a few more new elements to the game. It would be impossible while maintaining the old schedule. The third reason is purely business. The devs concluded that the winter period isn't good for small independent games, which could disappear among the noise caused by big titles.

With the holidays rapidly approaching, this is the time of year when big publishers are going to drown the market with advertising, eager for your holiday shopping coin. Similarly, February tends to be a month when everyone’s wallets have just recovered from the holiday rush, so in come the big AAA releases.

By the way, we have learned that the next update numbered 0.9.6, will enter public testing within the next two weeks. Thanks to it, we will gain more control over the game, mainly through the "custom" gameplay option. According to the old schedule, this was supposed to be the last patch before the 1.0 version, but the developers decided to add version 0.9.7 as well. This one will be released at the beginning of next year and will add, among other things, achievements. You can read more details about them in the announcement.
