Install the latest version of Proton GE
Proton is a tool released by Valve Software, which was created to enable running of unsupported games on Steam Deck. Proton GE is an unofficial version that makes games that don't run very well on the basic software run a little better.
Installing Proton GE step by step.:
- Enter Desktop Mode (hold down the Steam Deck power button, then select Switch to Desktop).
- Open Discover app store
- Search for and install ProtonUp-Qt. Launch this program.
- Click "Add version" and select "Proton GE", then install it.
- You can now close ProtonUp-QT and flaunch Steam.
- Now select Vermintide 2 in your Steam library and press Compatibility and check the box "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool".

In case of failure, use Proton Experimental
In a situation where you encounter problems running the game through Proton GE, try the following:
- Install the game.
- Change the compatibility to Proton Experimental.
- Visit the /steamapps/compatdata/ folder and delete the folder "552550".
- Verify the integrity of the game files.
- Launch the game and run the pre-launch installations.
- At this point, an error message may appear. Simply close it.
- After closing the pre-launch message, it will start downloading the Microsoft Edge Webview. Allow it. This process will fail (this is absolutely fine). Close the window responsible for this process.
- The game should then open the Vermintide Launcher. In it, a "Play" button will appear, which you should click. After a while, the game should launch.
If the launcher does not appear, simply restart the game.
