Ultimate Indie Racing is full of indie character crossovers

Like Mario Kart or Super Smash Bros. for indie games, Ultimate Indie Racing brings iconic indie characters into a kart racer. 2025 could be a big year for it.

Why wait for the Nintendo Switch 2 and what undeniably looks like a new Mario Kart, when you could support an indie developer instead? Zoroarts is a solo indie developer who has been sharing updates on an indie game kart racer. On Steam, the game is simply titled Ultimate Indie Racing. The clips of gameplay Zoroarts has shared to social media give a glimpse at the eclectic cast of playable characters, and a recent post claims that this year, Zoroarts will “properly announce” this indie racer.

Indie kart racing game features popular indie game characters in a fun crossover

There is no release date yet for this Ultimate Indie Racing game, but maybe we will learn more later this year. For now, it’s exciting to see the various indie developers who have shared their characters as drivers. Iconic indie protagonists like Kril from Another Crab’s Treasure, Bo from Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus, and the cat from Spirit City: Lofi Sessions are all playable characters. Zoroarts’ social media post reads: “2025 will be the year where I will properly announce my Indie Racer with the first line-up of Indiegame Characters who will join the race…” Hinting at further development for what must be the first indie game crossover kart racer.

Of course, it might be some time before players are able to get their hands on this game. Zoroarts is a solo developer after all, and this is not the only game they are working on. But the concept is clearly attracting fans. Responses to Zoroarts post were very supportive, with one person even expressing interest in a physical release. One response put it well: “the people yearn for an indie racer game.” Zoroarts is also looking to expand the roster, tagging publisher Devolver Digital and asking if their odd cartoonish mascot Volvy could join the race. Weirdly, it does seem like something the creative oddballs over at Devolver would be interested in too.

If this small game picks up steam, it could be exciting to see what other indie characters are able to join the roster. Just off the top of my head, it would be fun to see FlyKnight, Hollow Knight, a monk from Ale Abbey, the Jester from Balatro, the Pilot from UFO 50, an Among Us crewmate, and maybe even one of the pals from Palworld. Which characters would you add?
