Another Crab's Treasure is an action adventure game, with some elements from the soulslike genre. It was developed by the indie studio Aggro Crab, known for the warmly welcomed game Going Under.
Plot
Another Crab's Treasure takes us on a journey to the bottom of the ocean, which is home to anthropomorphic animals. This underwater world is covered with garbage, which brought on it a deadly danger in the form of gunk - a mysterious infection that threatens its existence.
The main character of the game is a hermit crab named Kril. In order to gain the resources needed to buy back his lost shell, the protagonist embarks on a dangerous journey. Along the way Kril learns the dark secrets of the littered ocean, and his actions will affect the fate of the entire underwater world.
Game mechanics
In Another Crab's Treasure we observe the action from the third person perspective (TPP). We move through various locations, among which we can find dense forests of seaweed, huge cities of sand, picturesque coral reefs and deep ditches bathed in darkness. Exploring them, we complete tasks commissioned by other animals to push forward the plot and various side missions, as well as fight with enemies.
Just like in the classic soulslike games, during battles we must constantly be on guard, carefully observe the movements of our adversaries and discover their weak points, in order to make timely and effective attacks. On the battlefield we use a variety of trash - from cans, which replace our shells (and thus - like armor provide us with protection from enemy attacks), through waste, which serve us as firearms and cold weapons. As we progress, we not only gain better equipment, but also learn various Umami techniques, or powerful attacks, which Kril learns from other inhabitants of the ocean.
The game allows us to adjust the difficulty level to individual preferences and abilities. Die-hard soulslike lovers are given a number of options to complicate the gameplay, while less experienced players can take advantage of various facilitations.
