Tossing Companions Will be Common in Baldur's Gate 3; Devs Discuss Races
In a recent interview, the developers of Baldur's Gate 3 revealed what the different races in their latest RPG will feature. Interestingly, throwing companions will be a good battle tactic for some of them.
Premiere of Baldur's Gate 3 is looming on the horizon, and the developers at Larian Studios are using the remaining time until it to advertise their latest RPG, continuing the classic series. In an interview published yesterday, the developers dwelled on the eleven races available in the game. Some facts about them may surprise you.
Lowlanders attack
Three developers took part in the interview with GameSpot: Swen Vincke (Director), Adam Smith (Lead Writer) and Nick Pechenin (Lead Systems Designer). The men succinctly discussed all the features of races available in Baldur's Gate 3 - each of them has its own secrets and curiosities, but what stuck out most to us was the fact that representatives of some races will be able to be literally thrown onto the battlefield..
The ideal tossing material will be, as it turns out, the Halflings:
"The cool thing about being a Halfling Barbarian is that if you have companions who are Halfling Barbarians, you can throw each other, because you have enough power to do so. It's a cannonball-like build, I strongly recommend it," Nick Pechenin said
[In such situations - ed.] I always think of a scene from The Lord of the Rings," added Swen Vincke
Unlike the iconic scene with Gimli and Aragorn from The Two Towers, the Dwarves in Baldur's Gate 3 cannot be thrown like Halflings; according to the developers, they are "too heavy." Gnomes, however, are a different matter - these are "excellent for tossing".
Half-orcs and other novelties
These are not the only tidbits presented by the developers from Larian Studios. From the interview we learned, among other things, that Elves and Half-Elves were the most popular race during Early Access.
Interestingly, Tieflings and Gnomes are expected to play a large role in the storyline. Other races, on the other hand, may be negatively perceived by NPCs, such as Drow or Dragonborn - more than one NPC may treat us differently because of our background.
Baldur's Gate 3 will introduce other new races, such as the dewy Half-Orcs and enigmatic Githyanki. How each of them will fare in the game, we will find out soon. The game will debut on August 3 on PC and September 6 on PS5.
