“They got cold feet and they cast someone else.” Amy Adams almost didn't appear in The Office for a funny reason, which became a joke in the TV series

Many stars have passed through The Office, almost none of whom include Amy Adams, who starred as Katy in the first season of the hit production. Angela Kinsey, also starring in the TV series, said on set that Adams was made for the role. Therefore, it is all the more surprising that she was dropped and replaced with another actress for one shooting day.

Kinsey along with Jenna Fischer discussed Amy Adams' performance in The Office on the Office Ladies podcast. The actresses confessed that although Adams was the first choice for the role of Katy, she was not the first person cast in the role, as she was considered too similar to Fischer, who already appeared in the TV show as Pam.

As a result, another artist was hired, however, she was quickly dropped.

But there was this concern that Amy and I looked too similar. I guess one of the writers even said, “I'm sorry. We can't cast her. She's like Jenna 2.0.” And so they got cold feet and they cast someone else. […]

We originally shot Hot Girl for an entire day with a completely different actress in the role of Katy. And unfortunately, she just wasn't quite right for the role. They had to let her go. We replaced her with Amy.

So they revisited the idea of hiring Amy Adams despite the similarities to Jenny Fischer. And even with the idea of using them as a joke in the TV series. In the episode in which she appeared, men compared Katy's appearance to Pam, played by Fischer. And in reference to the screenwriter's words about Jenna 2.0, Katy was called Pam 6.0 in The Office.
