More Cyberpunk and The Witcher Games Inbound; CD Projekt Confirms the Obvious
CD Projekt has officially confirmed that Cyberpunk and The Witcher brands will be further developed. So most likely, after The Witcher 4, which is in pre-production, we will see something like a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 (Cyberpunk 3077?) and then The Witcher 5.
During today's investor call of CD Projekt on StockWatch.pl [in Polish] official assurances were given related to the further development of the Cyberpunk brand. The company has invested a lot of time and effort in it, so it's no surprise that they are not abandoning it. The Phantom Liberty expansion will therefore not be a farewell to this universe.
The conversation also touched on the upcoming anime series, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Adam Kicinski, CEO of CD Projekt, said:
"We view Cyberpunk: Edgerunners as an investment in the popularity of the Cyberpunk IP, the format fits perfectly into the universe of CP. We believe that Edgerunners will encourage viewers to learn more about the game, it will be an opportunity for fans of Cyberpunk 2077 to enter even deeper into the universe through the anime series."
After the release of Phantom Liberty we are unlikely to get anything big related to Cyberpunk. This is due to the fact that in parallel CD Projekt started working on The Witcher 4. For now, we don't know more about the game, which remains in the early stages of development, other than that it will be powered by Unreal Engine 5 engine and that it won't end with one Witcher. Quoting Kicinski again (this time speaking at yesterday's investor call):
"The first [Witcher - editor's note] saga consisted of three parts, so now we are thinking about more than one game."
Perhaps the team is thinking of a mixed developement plan: first The Witcher 4, then the second Cyberpunk, then the next Witcher and so on. However, we will only find out about that in a few (if not more) years.
