CDP Explains How The Witcher 4 Will Learn From Cyberpunk 2077's Mistakes
The new The Witcher will reportedly not experience the problems thet plagued Cyberpunk. CD Projekt RED's representative assured that the Polish studio is learning from its mistakes.
After the release of the Phantom Liberty expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 CD Projekt RED will not continue developing the game (not counting some minor updates). Instead, the experience gained from the troubled development of the futuristic adventure in the Night City is expected to be a solid foundation for work on the new installment of The Witcher.
CD Projekt RED learns lessons from troubled Cyberpunk
Gaming fans don't need to be reminded that CD Projekt RED's Cyberpunk 2077 debuted with considerable problems. However, the studio is said to have learned from its mistakes.
Colin Walder spoke on how the difficulties in creating Cyberpunk 2077 will positively affect the new Witcher, after his speech at the Inven Game Conference event held in South Korea.
Walder has been associated with CD Projekt RED for eight years. He currently holds the position of chief engineer at the studio, and during his speech to the event organizers he talked a bit about working on sound in games, RPG characterics and Project Polaris, intended to be the first installment of a new saga in The Witcher universe.
He mentioned that now the developers are more closely examining the various stages of the game developed for consoles..
"Take consoles, for example [...]. In the case of our next project, Polaris, we have been testing demos and conducting internal evaluations of the console version from the very beginning. This is a step we took only in the late stages of development of Cyberpunk," Walder said.
The chief engineer went on to focus on developers' changed approach to work. Among other things, he pointed out, it's important to keep morale high.
"You have to show commitment. For example, when a deadline is approaching, instead of panicking, we can say "let's change the schedule" or "let's approach it differently." When we repeat this, when the team sees how to prevent a crisis, then trust and morale start recovering. People have to see it to believe it."
It must be said that Colin Walder did not reveal too many fresh details. We have heard many of these assurances before. Nevertheless, it's worth noting another indication that CD Projekt's upcoming game is unlikely to avoid the problems that cast a thick shadow over the release of Cyberpunk 2077.
Work is underway on Polaris and the Witcher remake
Recall that Project Polaris is also referred to colloquially as The Witcher 4 - this installment is to start a new series of games in the world created by Andrzej Sapkowski, reportedly already without Geralt.
It should also be mentioned that a remake of The Witcher from 2007 is also being developed, which was originally disguised under the working title Canis Majoris. As of yet, there is no word on when it might hit the market.
