Kingdom Come 2 dev felt it was time to address „wild claims some people spread that are apparently based just on one screenshot and a poorly translated tweet”
Daniel Vavra of Warhorse studio decided to clarify players' doubts about Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 caused by the recent controversy.
We are just two weeks away from the release of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Instead of analyzing more video footage from this project, we have recently been writing a lot about the controversies associated with this game.
The discussions became so intense that the developers altered the rules for discussing the game on the Steam forum, and soon after, the head of Warhorse studio, Daniel Vavra, released a statement assuring that KDC 2 is precisely the game he intended it to be, with no restrictions on his creative freedom.
However, this wasn't enough to dispel all doubts, so now Vavra has published broader explanations on X, which are supposed to dispel players' doubts and deny the "wild claims some people spread that are apparently based just on one screenshot and a poorly translated tweet."
- In KDC 2, all cutscenes can be skipped.
- The game hasn't been blocked in any country. This denies reports that the distribution of the game was banned, among others, in Saudi Arabia.
- No one forced the devs to introduce diversity into the game. What is there is solely due to the will of the developers.
- Homosexual characters appear in the game, but they were also present in the first installment, so there is no change in approach here.
- KDC 2 is an RPG and like any good representative of this genre, it offers a great deal of freedom of action. The main character can therefore engage in homosexual romances if the player wishes so. At the same time, the creators stick to historical realities, so the characters realize that such relationships are a sin. Additionally, Vavra emphasizes that all romances in the game are completely optional.
- The game features greater ethnic diversity than the first installment, which is because the original was set in rural areas, whereas the sequel takes place in one of the wealthiest cities of that era in Europe, making it natural to encounter not only native inhabitants.
- Moreover, the game's action takes place during a war. Musa seen in the video materials, came to the Czech Kingdom with an invading army as part of King Sigismund's royal court, having met him through his position at Sultan Bayezid's court. He is an educated nobleman and a Renaissance man from the Kingdom of Mali. His beliefs and character greatly differ from the local ones, which will create many interesting situations in the campaign, and all of this has a good narrative justification.
- The game remains faithful to the morality and social norms of 1403, and everything the devs do serves to tell a good story, not an attempt to appeal to "modern audiences."
The developers don't want the game to be used for clickbait by people who haven't even played it yet. Vavra stated that some of the commentators use the exact same narrative they claim to fight against, and the hateful comments from some players deeply saddened him.
As an example, he cited material from the Rev says desu channel, according to which the diversity in KDC2 led to players massively canceling pre-orders. A decline in the game's position on the Steam bestseller list was given as evidence. Vavra explains that this is nonsense, and the ratio of sold to returned copies is the same as before. The drop in the list results from the fact that it is constantly updated. Most people who were supposed to place pre-orders have already done so. Moreover, nine games that have just been heavily discounted have reached the top of the list. Monster Hunter Wilds also experienced a similar steep decline, and in the case of this title, there is no talk of any controversies.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is coming to PC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 5. The game will be released on February 4th of this year.
